This section has the guidelines which have been agreed by various third sector partners and the Scottish Government in dealing with public perceptions and homelessness.

Those organisations include Aberdeen Cyrenians, All in for Change, Bethany Christian Trust, Crisis, Glasgow City Mission, Homeless Action Scotland, Homeless Network Scotland, Rock Trust, SeAscape, Scottish Government, Shelter, Simon Community, Streetworks, Street Soccer, Social Bite, A Way Home Scotland.

These guidelines are directed towards third sector organisations, local authorities, journalists and those who work with and support homeless people. This resource is a guide to try and ensure that the language we use is not detrimental to the people we are trying to support.

It was our intention to have a lived experience group asses and contribute to these guidelines but due to the current pandemic this was not something we could not facilitate. We do however intend to complete this aspect of the work whenever it is safe to do so.

If you have any questions or want to discuss any issue within the content of these guidelines then please get in contact with Garry Burns, Communication and Engagement Manager at Homeless Action Scotland, he can be contacted at
